This page is not Donegal or even Irish. It has been borrowed from a South African wiki to demonstrate how the memorabilia of past times can be assembled to create an interesting "life-story" page. Every family in the county has an album or "goodie box" with this sort of material in it. Much of this county or family history will never see the light of day. What a sad loss for our heritage and for generations to come! This wiki will allow for a rich and diverse cultural history to be displayed in the form of a "virtual museum".
Welcome to this "Personality Page".
Robert Augustus Rich Bowles
This page will be a work in progress for some time. It has been created to illustrate how the "bits and bobs" of a lifetime can be strung together to form a story.
 | This page records the military career of the little boy in the pikkie (and yes, it is a little boy, despite the garb. Seemingly in those days, kids wore kit like this until they had been "breeched" and were old enough to wear trousers). This guy served in WW1, (including Delville Wood) was injured and captured. Later he rose to the rank of WO1 in the SAEC having served in Egypt, Italy and Tristan da Cunha, as well as other parts of Africa. |
 | | Natal Mounted Rifles. Dated 21 August 1914. Annotated."I suppose you have heard that we are all called out. What for or where we are going is more than we know". Britain declared war on Germany 15 days earlier. |
